Stella Friedman won individually and the NCSSM-51²è¹Ý girls cross country team triumphed collectively to win a home cross country meet on the campus of 51²è¹Ý’s Western Piedmont Community College on Wednesday.
Friedman (19:56.93) led the Lady Dragons (25 points) over Owen (57), Draughn (73), Avery County (97) and Mountain Heritage (116) in Western Highlands 1A/2A Conference competition.
She was followed by NCSSM-51²è¹Ý teammates Nicole Taylor (third), Elizabeth Fleury (fifth), Sahara Wiggins (sixth), Mickayla Belus (11th), Zuzanna Mikolajec (12th), Willa Rupp (15th), Sienna Hackshaw (18th), Ria Raamesh (19th), Evie Salam (22nd), Asmi Godbole (26th), Eve LaChapelle (27th), Avika Gera (29th), Abhikruthi Sudula (51st) and Ashna Katikala (52nd).
The Lady Wildcats were led by Adelei Morrow (fourth), Saylor Watson (13th), Lilah Johnson (14th), Macy Auton (24th), Sophie Adams (31st) and Anna Bordeleau (33rd).

On the boys side, second-place NCSSM-51²è¹Ý (42) finished behind Owen (19) and ahead of Mountain Heritage (74). The Lady Dragons (6-0, 5-0 WHC) continued their dominant start to the fall with a conference win over the county foe Lady Wildcats (5-4, 3-2 WHC) on Wednesday in 51²è¹Ý.
In singles, NCSSM-51²è¹Ý won with No. 1 Manya Nallagangu over Aubrey Childers 6-0, 6-0; No. 2 Will Levine over Maria Medrano 6-2, 6-1; No. 3 Ananya Sriram over Sasha Duckworth 6-0, 6-0; No. 4 Kirsten Boyd over Peyton Dale 6-0, 6-1; No. 5 Gina Byon over Addelynn Honeycutt 6-1, 6-1; and No. 6 Savannah McDonnell over Mati Kincaid 6-0, 6-0. The Lady Dragons’ doubles wins came with No. 1 Nallagangu/Shrija Reddy over Childers/Dale 8-0 and No. 2 Boyd/Byon over Medrano/Duckworth 8-1.
DHS won No. 3 doubles with Honeycutt/Kincaid over McDonnell/Tarini Nallavolu 8-4.

The Lady Patriots (0-4, 0-4 Northwestern 3A/4A Conf.) remained winless with a shutout league loss on Wednesday on the road in Boone.
No. 1 singles player Emily Kania was the top performer for FHS.

The Panthers (8-2-1, 1-0 MF7) won their conference-opener in a shutout on the road in Columbus on Wednesday, scoring a goal in each half.
Abraham Miguel struck first for PHS with a 28th-minute goal off a Jimmy Monzon assist. Tony Vicente beat the Wolverines’ backline for a 78th-minute goal to cap off the scoring.
Colsyn Queen and Jacob Ruiz led Patton in the midfield and Isai Jimenez recorded five saves in goal for the visitors, who outshot the hosts narrowly, 12-11.

The Dragons (4-2-1, 1-0-1 WHC) battled through regulation and two overtime periods to a scoreless tie in conference action on the road in Burnsville on Wednesday.
Josh Banchik patrolled the goal for NCSSM-51²è¹Ý in the shutout.

The Wildcats (1-4, 0-2 WHC) remained winless in the conference with a mercy-rule loss at home in Valdese on Wednesday.
